Hello to all chapter members! We hope you all had relaxing and enjoyable summers. We're gearing back up for another year of informative, interesting content, plus in-person events!

Here's the latest news from the Chapter.

Washington D.C – Baltimore Chapter Administrative Council Elections

Voting is currently open to elect the new administrative council for 2022-2023. This year we are using Google Forms for the ballot. Vote to choose the chapter officers and at-large directors for the year!

The virtual election ballot is live and will remain open until Friday, September 23rd, 2022. All STC WDCB Chapter members in good standing are eligible to vote in this election.

The term year for all officers is July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, therefore, the new administrative council will retroactively take office on July 1, 2022.

How to Create Technical Illustrations in Adobe Illustrator Workshop

When: Friday, September 30th at 9AM–11:30AM ET

Learn to create sophisticated technical illustrations in Adobe Illustrator! We are diving back into our educational opportunities with an exciting workshop. Join Adam Bradley for a chance to learn the basics of technical illustrations in Adobe Illustrator.

First Friday lunch – Fire Works Pizza in Arlington VA (Courthouse)

When: Friday, October 7th at 12a.m.–1pm. ET

Pizza and a chance to grow your network!

Join your tech comm colleagues in the DC area for a lunch at Fire Works Pizza in Arlington, VA. The restaurant is less than a five minute walk from Courthouse metro stop on the Orange and Silver lines. The event will be hosted by Liz Herman.

Remember that you don't have to be an STC member to attend. Grow your network in tech comm and ask questions about the profession from people who know it.

Stay Tuned for the 2022 – 2023 Virtual Kickoff Event!

We are also planning the annual Kickoff Event to commemorate another successful year with the STC WDCB Administrative Council, acknowledge award recipients, and discuss upcoming events while networking. Stay tuned for more information about this event, which will be in November.

Reminder about STC Membership Options

Just a quick reminder that STC offers a number of membership levels to fit different stages of your journey in the field of tech comm. Whether you're retired, a professional or academic, or a new professional, there are options that fit everyone.

Remember: As a member of a professional society, your STC dues are tax deductible in the U.S.A. Refer to the chart of membership levels and dues at STC Membership Levels and Benefits for how to figure the rates for new and renewing members.

Requirements for membership

Professional and Academic Member
To be eligible, you should be a more seasoned professional with four or more years of experience.
Retired Member
You must be 65 years of age or older, working 20 hours or less in the field, and be a consecutive member of STC for 10 years or more.
Student Member
To be eligible for student membership, you must be enrolled in an accredited university, college, community college, or technical school; taking at least two courses or the equivalent each term; and preparing for a career in technical communication.
New Professional Member
To qualify for the New Professional Member rate, you must have graduated from a college/university within the past three years and/or are new to the tech comm field.

STC Alliance Competition

The new deadline for the STC Alliance Competition is September 30, 2022. Learn more and submit your content! See the STC Alliance Competition website for more information.

For updates on how to enter the competition and volunteer as a judge, see our Competition website and subscribe to the Call for Entries mailing list for details.

The current schedule for the competition is

  • September 30, 2022 – Deadline for Submission of Entries 6:00 pm EDT
  • October 3 – Judging Phase begins
  • November 10 – Consensus meeting for awards and nominations for Best of Show
  • December 10 – Selection of Best of Show
  • January 9, 2023 – Entrants begin to receive assessments and award notifications
