Greetings STC WDCB Family,

Happy holiday season, everyone! We have some news and exciting events to share with you this month.


STC WDCB Mentoring Program

We are launching our mentoring program this month! This professional development initiative is to offer guidance to further existing and new careers in technical communication in the areas of UX/UI design and writing, tech writing, tech illustrating, project management and an array of other areas.

The program director, Adam Bradley, will provide feedback on your resume, portfolio, and cover letter, or provide guidance on how to take the next steps within your career journey. We are here to help as you aspire to move into the next phase of your career.

Mentoring Program Kickoff Event
December 17th at 1:00 PM EST
Join us to kickoff the mentoring event, and compete to win a free membership!
To kick off this program we are holding a special competition. During the event, you will be given 30 minutes to communicate a technical concept through writing or illustrating, which we will then judge. Two winners will receive a one-year STC membership. We will give away one Student membership and one Professional and Academic membership.
Keep in mind, you must be a chapter member to participate in the mentoring program, but anyone can win a free membership through the contest.

January 2022

Agile and Technical Communication Workshop
Thursday, January 27th at 7:00-9:00 PM EST.
There are many ways to understand, manage and measure our work. We often align our approach depending on the team or business we're supporting. This session is for technical communicators working in teams using Agile methods to develop a product or system. This session will focus on the following two methods under the Agile umbrella:

  1. Scrum
  2. Kanban

STC Alliance Competition

It's time to start getting your competition entries ready. Submissions will be accepted from January 1 through January 31, 2022.

If you are interested in being a competition judge, applications will open on January 1, 2022.

Renew Your STC WDCB Membership

If you haven't already, please Renew Your STC Membership for 2022 and allow us to continue serving you by selecting STC WDCB as your home chapter.

December 31, 2021 is the last day of your 2021 STC membership. Annual dues are payable to STC on January 1 (membership year ends on December 31). STC dues are tax deductible. Refer to the chart of membership levels and dues at STC Membership Levels and Benefits for how to figure the rates for new and renewing members.

Membership in one chapter and one SIG is included in the dues for Gold, Student, and Retired members. Professional and Academic memberships and New Professional memberships pay $25 for each chapter and $10 for each SIG they would like to join. These fees go to support the operating costs as a rebate to your home chapter.
