Announcement from the Technical Editing SIG
The Technical Editing SIG offers two scholarships of $2,000 each. The first scholarship assists students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Technical Communication and the second assists students who are pursuing a graduate degree in Technical Communication. Students applying for one of these scholarships are expected to be able to demonstrate their focus on topics related to technical editing through their academic studies, current jobs, special projects, or undergraduate/graduate program.
To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must be:
* Enrolled in an undergraduate degree or graduate degree program related to Technical Editing or Technical Communication
* Pursuing a career as a Technical Editor

The Society encourages qualified students to apply for membership in its honorary societies, Sigma Tau Chi and Alpha Sigma.
Sigma Tau Chi recognizes students enrolled in a baccalaureate or graduate technical communication program who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above, are exemplary participants in STC, and demonstrate the potential for significant contributions to the profession.
Alpha Sigma recognizes students enrolled in two-year and certificate technical communication programs who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above, are active participants in STC, and demonstrate the potential to contribute to the profession.
In early September, details and applications will be sent to all directors of academic technical communication programs, Society directors, and advisors of student STC chapters. If you meet these qualifications or know of a student who does, please request an application from one of these contacts. The application materials are also available on the STC website at stc.org/component/content/article/133-awards/1219-stx-and-ax.
Students who are accepted into Sigma Tau Chi or Alpha Sigma receive one year’s membership in STC, a pin, and a T-shirt. The STC Board of Directors will notify the selected students after its January meeting.

Join us for the STC Washington, DC Chapter's 2008 Open House and Exhibit. Be inspired by winning entries from the 2007-2008 STC International Technical Art and Technical Publications Competitions, meet new people, and reconnect with old friends.
Our Open House is an informal event during which you can mingle with other chapter members and guests, learn more about the chapter, and enjoy delicious food and drinks catered by Whole Foods. New this year is our display of the traveling exhibit of winning entries from STC's International Technical Art and Technical Publications Competitions. These are the information products that won highest honors a Distinguished Technical Communication award at their chapter competitions of origin. They then competed with similar entries from around the world and won again at the international level. To enhance your appreciation of these fine examples of technical communication, actual judging comments will be displayed with each entry, allowing you to learn exactly what made it worthy of an international award, and perhaps then emulating those qualities in your own work.
We love students! Each paying attendee may bring a full-time high school or college student as your guest for free! To ensure sufficient refreshments, student guests must register.
