How to Create Technical Illustrations in Adobe Illustrator

This feature in The MasterClass in Tech Comm Speakers Series is on how to create sophisticated technical illustrations in Adobe Illustrator.

STC WDCB in partnership with St. Mary’s County Arts Council Present “How to Create Technical Illustrations in Adobe Illustrator” Virtual Workshop

Technical illustrations depict complex concepts to convey information to end-users. In this webinar, you will learn the fundamentals to create sophisticated technical illustrations in Adobe Illustrator. Adam will guide you through techniques that will teach you skills such as how to create isometric projections and orthographic drawings to support your technical communication.

Session Takeaways:

1. Learn Adobe Illustrator’s foundational tools and settings

2. Learn technical illustration fundamentals such as technical line weights and line types

3. Learn why isometric projections and orthographic views are used in technical illustrations

4. Obtain Adobe Illustrator action set files that can be used to create isometric projections from orthographic views

Workshop Agenda:

12:00 –12:30 PM – Learn how to start using basic tools in Adobe Illustrator

12:30 –12:40 PM – Discuss raster vs vector and CMYK vs RGB

12:40 –12:50 PM – Try the demo and ask questions

12:50 –1:20 PM – Learn how to create organizational charts, art control numbers, layers/artboards, and aligning drawings

1:20 –1:30 PM – Try the demo and ask questions

1:30 –1:45 PM – Learn shading and lighting techniques for various form factors and common technical illustration line types

1:45 –2:00 PM – Learn how to create 3D drawings in Adobe Illustrator

2:00 – 2:30 PM – Ask specific questions about what you want to learn about Adobe Illustrator or technical illustrations

About the Instructor

Adam Bradley develops aerospace documentation solutions for the United States Department of Defense (DoD) as a senior technical writer and graphic artist. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia Southern University (GSU). He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Information Technology, Business Intelligence & Analytics from Purdue University Global.

Adam is a certified Adobe Expert in Adobe Illustrator; He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and holds a certification in Agile Project Management from the University of Maryland.
