Join your STC and other colleagues for lunch at the City Club of Washington and a special presentation by Heidi Y. Lawrence, Assistant Professor of Writing and Rhetoric at George Mason University and expert on the rhetoric of medical and scientific controversies. Dr. Lawrence will share her insights and experiences with Washington, D.C.-area technical communication professionals and address topics of interest to technical writers in diverse fields as well as those in government positions or positions with government contractors. Speaking on “Building Competencies in Technical Communication for Government Agencies,” Dr. Lawrence will identify keys to success in facing the special challenges of government writing and engage in follow-on discussion of comments and questions raised. STC members and others in the Washington, DC area will appreciate this special opportunity for professional dialogue and growth in the unique setting of one of our area’s finest private clubs.

Founded in 1987, the City Club of Washington is located in the heart of the business and theater district and is a well-known venue for dining and entertaining, business, social, and community activities. Our menu for this First Friday Lunch will feature the City Club’s fabulous lunch buffet of soup, salads, and a selection of entrees prepared by the club’s Executive Chef Jabari Wadlington with passion and love for the culinary arts and a focus on high quality fresh and local ingredients.
The City Club of Washington is located at 555 13th St NW on the lower level of the Columbia Square building. Take the Red Line to Metro Center. Exit the station through the 12th and F Street exit. Arrive on street level and walk straight ahead to reach the entrance of the Columbia Square building on the left. This is only 25-30 spaces from the escalator of the Metro. This entrance to the building is NOT wheelchair accessible. Note the Parking Tips below for an alternate entrance.
REGISTRATION AND REFUND POLICY
Registration for the First Friday Lunch on August 4 will be accepted through August 1 and require prepayment of the registration fee. A certificate of attendance will be provided to those requiring it for reimbursement of their training or professional development cost.
Refunds up to 1 day before event
Columbia Square Parking Garage is the 3rd opening (on the left just before Subway Cafe awning). There is a brass sign that says “Columbia Square.” The loading dock is the 2nd (middle) opening. Take the elevator up to the concourse level to enter the City Club.
