2019 WDCB Chapter Awards Dinner

Photo of Teknos, 2019 Best in Show winner. The annual Technical Communication Competition Awards Celebration and chapter volunteer recognition event is the highlight of the STC Washington, DC-Baltimore (WDCB) chapter’s events calendar. This year’s event was a standout, combining a great meal and hospitality, a distinguished speaker, and awards.

On March 27th, the WDCB chapter held its annual awards celebration at Il Positano Ristorante in Bethesda. Il Positano provided impeccable hospitality, and space for competition awardees to display their work. Students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology wowed us as they received the Best in Show award for their publication, Teknos. This is a remarkable publication authored by remarkable people.

Allen Houser informed us with his keynote about STC’s Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CTPC) credential, and what you can learn from STC certification even if you don’t choose to formally pursue it. The dinner provided a great opportunity for competition awardees to display and discuss their respective works, including challenges faced and overcome. Attendees discussed job opportunities, career paths, new software, caught up with friends, or made new friends.

The evening concluded with the WDCB chapter giving out its chapter awards in recognition of volunteer services, including the President’s Award to Past President, Lori Meyer, for her continued contributions to STC, the WDCB chapter, and the technical communication field.

It was a great night, and we hope to see you at a future WDCB chapter event!
