Curating Content: Designing Wiki Solutions that Scale

23 Jan 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC-5

PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

After three years of growth, Opower’s internal wiki has transformed from an Engineering and Product Team resource of a few hundred pages to a 20,000+ page knowledge repository for nearly all the groups at the company. Even with less than 400 users, the wiki regularly received 120,000+ page views, 17,000+ visits, and 600+ new pages a month. All our metrics pointed to a thriving wiki. However, our wiki garden was turning into a bit of a jungle.

A jungle may be a fantastic place for open growth and collaboration, but let’s face it…nobody should have to go on an expedition to find a basic product requirement. In addition, as our wiki scaled to match the hyper growth of our company and products, we learned that information credibility and accessibility were becoming issues for our users.

In this session, you’ll learn how Opower diagnosed these problems and built a new resource called the “Body of Knowledge” within the wiki to make it easier for different teams to find the content they needed the most.
